about

"I kept the first organ-like keyboard track as the basis for my remix. In the original song that track has a very floating Eno-esque quality. I added some ring modulation to give a pulsing vibrating sound that would blend well with the rhythmic mallet parts I added on top. I also brought in little snippets of one other original keyboard track which was heavy on effects (kinda like digital seagulls squawking). My main goal was to re-create the track using acoustic instruments as much as possible and to make it into a drumming feature that would hopefully pay tribute to Jason’s high level of drumming. I am drawn to very bad puns, hence my name for the track. Since the original begins and is underpinned throughout with a sort of electronic garbage disposal sound I decided to replace it with a sampled jawbone (essentially jowls of an ass) played at many pitch levels with lots of reverb and delay (strained). I then added 2 marimba tracks and a vibraphone track that take the organ part through different chord inversions while using alternating sticking patterns that give it forward motion. Instead of sitting down at a drum kit, I decided to use a stand-up more classically oriented drum set up and played 2 separate solo tracks that weave together. For a ride cymbal sound I used a wind gong played with sticks and run through some effects. I had fun."
